LiU condemns encroachment against higher education in Turkey

Linköping University strongly condemns the encroachment against higher education and expresses its deep support for the academic community in Turkey.

After the attempted coup on Friday, July 15, the Turkish government has carried out a number of encroachments that threaten freedom of expression – as well as academic freedom – in Turkey. Among other things, 1,577 deans have been fired. Linköping University (LiU) strongly condemns this encroachment against higher education and expresses its deep support for the academic community in Turkey.

Freedom of expression and academic freedom are the linchpin for research and higher education, and are values that must always be safeguarded. Together with the Association of Swedish Higher Education and many other higher education institutions, LiU is deeply concerned over this development and concurs with the statements from EUA and Scholars and Risk below.
