This course examines sustainable development as a concept, policy agenda, and field of research. The students are introduced to theoretical perspectives that allow critical reflection on the constitutive interplay between the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and sustainability science. The course highlights how social relations such as class, gender and culture affect scientific knowledge production and how these relations inform the making and implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda. Knowledge hierarchies across developed and developing countries is a central theme in the course. The students will develop academic skills of referencing, critical analysis and writing and apply critical perspectives in an individual written assignment.
