Mert Vural obtained his master’s degree in Materials Science from Bilkent University, Turkey, in 2009. During his early graduate studies, he worked on flexible composite materials for soft photonics. Following his master’s work, he started his Ph.D. in Materials Science at University of Maryland, where he studied structure and mechanics of elastic nanocomposites for soft electronics.
After successfully defending his thesis at 2016, he joined Pennsylvania State University as a postdoctoral researcher to study nanocomposites of proteins and two-dimensional (2D) materials. The sum of this work has highlighted the potential of engineered proteins as assembly tools to program the organization of 2D crystals.
In 2018, he joined Laboratory of Organic Electronics as a postdoctoral researcher to continue his work on controlled assembly of nanomaterials and organic crystals to enable new spectrum of materials for soft electronics and robotics.
