My research is focused on enabling customization and optimization of complex industrial products. With a background in mechanical engineering and software development, I am passionate about open and reusable tools for design and product development.

Giving customers price and performance suggestions for customized, complex products, like mining equipment or industrial robots, can require thousands of invested engineering hours, without even knowing whether the customer will fulfill a purchase.

To help reduce this risk, my research is focused on enabling the customization and optimization of complex industrial products. More specifically, how can we structure, develop and distribute reusable software tools for supporting this? What are the requirements for making these tools usable by engineers and by customers? My research is carried out in close collaboration with industrial partners and has been applied to large mining machinery as well as staircase assemblies, manufactured uniquely for every customer.

Successfully implementing my findings can lead to an accelerated and knowledge-enhanced quotation process, leading to better product proposals in less invested time.
