It is known that the Young subgroup of a symmetric group is the parabolic subgroup and that the element of longest length in that subgroup is an involution. It has also been proved that the Schubert variety indexed by that longest element is smooth.
I am interested in studying rational smoothness of Schubert varieties indexed by elements from parabolic subgroups of the finite simply laced Coxeter group.
