Linköping will host the International Conference on Availability, Reliability and Security (ARES). The conference will bring together 300–400 researchers, industry experts, policymakers, and practitioners from around the world to discuss developments in cybersecurity, privacy, and trustworthy digital systems. 

Konsert och kongress
The conference will take place on 24–27 August 2026 at Linköping Konsert & Congress Hall. It marks the 21st edition of ARES, an established international conference that has brought together the cybersecurity research community since 2006.

Led by researchers at Linköping University

ARES 2026 is organised by researchers at the Department of Computer and Information Science (IDA) at Linköping University, with the Division of Cybersecurity playing a central role in hosting the conference.

The event reflects the growing international profile of cybersecurity research at LiU. Researchers within the division work on a broad range of topics, including cyber resilience, privacy, trustworthy artificial intelligence, critical infrastructure protection, and secure digital systems. These areas are increasingly important as societies become more dependent on digital technologies and face evolving challenges related to cyberattacks, artificial intelligence, critical infrastructure, privacy, and digital trust.

Several LiU researchers hold key leadership roles within ARES 2026. Mikael Asplund, Head of the Division of Cybersecurity, serves as General Chair, while Professor Simin Nadjm‑Tehrani is one of the Programme Committee Chairs. Zeeshan Afzal coordinates the workshop programme, Buse Atli serves as Proceedings Chair, and Gurjot Singh serves as Publicity Chair.

“Hosting ARES in Linköping is an important milestone for our cybersecurity research environment. It provides an opportunity to showcase research conducted at LiU while bringing international experts, industry representatives, and public‑sector organisations to the region. We hope the conference will lead to new collaborations that continue beyond the event itself,” says Mikael Asplund, Senior Associate Professor at Linköping University and General Chair of ARES 2026.

Research, innovation and collaboration


The conference programme covers topics such as cybersecurity, privacy, trustworthy AI, digital identity, software security, critical infrastructure protection, and digital resilience. In addition to the scientific programme, participants can attend specialised workshops, paper presentation sessions, networking activities, and the ARES EU Projects Symposium.
Participants will have the opportunity to present research results, receive feedback from international experts, and establish new collaborations. A social programme with networking events will also support informal discussions and knowledge exchange.

International keynote speakers


The programme includes keynote presentations by internationally recognised experts, including Erik Hemberg from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, and Roberto Baldoni, Senior Advisor on Technology and Cybersecurity Policy to the Italian Ambassador in the United States and former Director General of Italy’s National Cybersecurity Agency and Elena Dubrova, Professor, Department of Electronics, School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden.

Their presentations will address current challenges in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and digital resilience, as well as the development of secure and trustworthy digital infrastructures.
