Information Systems (INFOR)

The division of Information Systems is a part of the Department of Management and Engineering at Linköping University. We conduct research and offer courses at undergraduate and graduate level.

Research

One of our main areas, where we are leading nationally and have a high visibility internationally, is IT within the public sector (e-government, public e-services, smart cities). Our researchers are interested in, among other things, policy and practice in information systems development and use (e.g. in the e-government field), change processes and user or stakeholder influence, IT governance, inter-organisational collaboration, IT and communications in organisational processes, IT systems effects on users and vice versa. We are the most visible research constellation within the e-government field in Sweden and among the top in Scandinavia. We are active in the IFIP EGOV/ePart conference, in Scandinavian Workshop on eGovernment, public ICT tracks at all major IS conferences, and in several other national and international networks and constellations.

We want to contribute with knowledge of how IT systems are developed and used by people in organisations and in society. We stress the importance of studying interaction between people, IT systems and organisation. Developing IT systems implies changing and improving organisations. It is important to study how IT development interacts with other types of organisational changes. The research is conducted in collaboration with both private companies and public organisations on governmental and municipality levels. Collaboration also includes national and international research partners.

Education

We offer undergraduate and graduate education in Information Systems. We are highly involved in the Information Systems analysis programme and master’s programme in IT and Management. Our courses are built on classical theories about Information Systems as well as recent research in the field and contemporary challenges from the field.

Collaboration

We collaborate actively with the surrounding society regarding education as well as research. The research is conducted in collaboration with both private companies and public organisations on governmental and municipality levels. Collaboration also includes national and international research partners.
The division of Information Systems also work within the profile area response systems through Center for Advanced Research in Emergency Response (CARER) – a center that is hosted by our division.
