Ethnicity in Preschool

Etnicitet i förskolan

This project examines how staff, children and parents accomplish ethnicity in the preschool’s daily practice.

The research is organized into four project areas that highlight different contexts in preschool.

These areas are i) the interaction between preschool staff and parents at drop-off and pick-up, ii) the preschool’s activities when it comes to the staff’s duties in relation to ethnicity, iii) multilingualism in the preschool’s daily activities, and finally iv) multilingual preschoolers’ play and social interaction during “free play”.

Generally, findings in all the project areas identify language as the foremost marker of ethnicity.

The project is funded by the Swedish Research Council.
