History research at the Department of Culture and Society (IKOS) is characterised by both breadth and depth, and covers the period from the Middle Ages to the present, with a certain concentration on modern history.

The historians at IKOS work on projects in several different areas. Research is particularly strong in the history of culture, social history, Jewish history, oral history, the theory of history teaching, the use of history and cultural heritage. The historians at IKOS are primarily active in the Division of Philosophy, History, Arts and Religion. This division arranges seminars in history where researchers present ongoing work, and it provides doctoral education in history.

IKOS's historians publish articles in scientific journals, through commercial publishers, and other channels. Short articles are sometimes published in IKOS's own series: “Historia i Linköping”.
