Language Policy in Multilingual Preschools and Families

Bokstavsbild2

This project aims to study how language policy on a societal level is put into use within a preschool’s practice, as well as how this interacts with families’ linguistic policies.

The project – a collaboration between Linköping University, Uppsala University and the University of Gothenburg – is being conducted by interaction and ethnicity researchers, as well as researchers with longtime experience of multilingual studies.

Seven studies make up the project, one of which examines language policy on a comprehensive level while the others look at language policy in preschool and in families’ linguistic practices. The studied preschools represent different linguistic combinations when it comes to both the institutional level and the children attending the school.

The project is funded by the Swedish Research Council.
