Vascular Inflammation

Vaskulär inflammation

Little is known about the vascular biology in development of abdominal aortic aneurysm and the implications of atherosclerosis and inflammation in the disease. Aneurysm is an inflammatory disease that is strongly associated with atherosclerosis.

The general importance of our research is to clarify pathophysiological concepts in vascular diseases such as abdominal aortic aneurysm and atherosclerosis. The research is focused on modification of extracellular matrix, and to target cells and molecules, linking expression/activation with aneurysmal phenotypes, leading potentially to the development of new tools for diagnosis, prognosis and therapeutics in aneurysmal diseases.

The research is supported by the Swedish Research Council, Heart and Lung Foundation, Åke Wibergs Foundation and ALF grants.
