Intended learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to
- demonstrate basic skills in web publishing for, for example, blogs, business web sites, e-magazines and other similar publications,
- adapt the web technology for own publication purposes,
- start and maintain a non-complex publication,
- design a non-complex web publication,
- describe, compare and evaluate web publications, regarding web technology, web design and communication.

Course content

The course focuses on web technology and will cover a number of publishing tools for common purposes, such as creating a blog, fanzine, wiki, discussion forum, virtual communities and pod radio. During the course, basic programming that is needed to modify code in order to make web sites more interesting is studied, for example Cascading Style Sheets, JavaScript, RSS and XHTML/XML. Basic web design and implementation of design are also studied, as well as how technical solutions influence communication.

Teaching and working methods

The course is given as a distance course. The course will contain laboratory sessions that the students later will apply on a project work.

Examination

The course is examined through a project work, and through written assignments during the course.

Three-grade scale, U, G, VG

Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus.
