Entry requirements

For admission to the course, completed school year 1 and year 2 of the Bachelor's Programme in Cognitive Science and 120 HE credits approved in the programme.

Intended learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- independently work on an assigned cognitive science assignment
of an investigative, development or research nature,
- produce a longer cohesive scientific text in writing,
- present a larger work orally,
- critically review and discuss a scientific work that is presented
orally and in writing.

Course content

Within the course, students plan and implement a comprehensive cognitive science work. This work is carried out in an independent manner and include forming of an orientation, purpose, questions, appropriate theories, empirical perspectives, approaches, methods and techniques, as well as reflecting on the process and product realized in the development of knowledge. The work is supported by introductory and recurring seminars and ongoing supervision. The oral and written argument for the chosen direction and approach is also central to the course. The course also includes reviews of, and opposition on, other students' work.

Individual degree project under supervision.

Examination

Approved master's thesis requires:
- Writing of a scientific report/essay
- Submission of the work with a public discussion
- Review of another work
- Active attendance at the seminars that are included in the
course

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part
of the course two times are entitled to have a new examiner
appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in
order to improve their grades.

Other information

Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.
