Intended learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- describe measures and diagrams that are fundamental in statistics
- use knowledge of the most common statistical inference methods
- apply statistical methods to analyse of data
- carry out elementary statistical analyses on secondary data.
Course content
The aim of the course is that the student should acquire an overview of central concepts and points of view in statistics.
The course covers:
- Descriptive measures that provide clarity to a data
- Various types of diagrams
- Index theory
- Probability concepts
- Normal distribution
- Binomial distribution
- Hypothesis test, confidence interval
- Simple linear regression and prediction intervals
- test of independence.
Teaching and working methods
Apart from self-study, the teaching comprises lectures, teaching sessions and supervision in connection with a compulsory project.
Examination
The course is examined through a written examination and through project presentations in report form.
