LINKÖPING UNIVERSITY
hereby advertises a position as

Assistant professor in Materials Science with specialization in Scanning Probe Microscopy of Soft Materials

formally based at The Department of Science and Technology.

Description of the subject area
A Fellow position, an Assistant Professor, is now being announced within the Wallenberg Wood Science Center (WWSC), a program funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. This position relates to research and teaching in the field of materials science with a focus on scanning probe microscopy of soft materials with placement at the Laboratory of Organic Electronics (LOE) at Linköping University, Department of Science and Technology, Campus Norrköping, Linköping University. Aided by a highly competitive starting package that includes two PhD students, access to state-of-the-art facilities, additional funds for e.g. a post-doc and small equipment, and a strong collaborative environment, the successful applicant is expected to establish and maintain top-quality independent research related to the development and usage of scanning probe microscopy for materials such as conjugated macromolecules, organic semiconductors, living cells, and soft forest-based materials. Your background includes, but is not limited to, the use and development of state-of-the-art scanning probe microscopy, with examples of techniques being atomic force microscopy and nearfield scanning optical microscopy.

At LOE, we explore electronic and optical properties of organic materials and organic-inorganic hybrid systems. Of particular interest is the development of new components and system concepts for applications in energy, internet-of-things, health and biology. Our research includes synthesis, materials science, theory, and studies of electronic and photonic components and systems, ranging from fundamental research to the commercialization of research findings. LOE currently includes about 130 researchers and is divided into twelve research groups performing research on areas spanning from organic nanoelectronics and printed electronics to organic bioelectronics, energy materials, nanooptics, and electronic plants. The successful candidate will complement and expand our activities in research based on design and development of new functional materials and devices from forest-based raw materials beyond the current state-of-the-art.

Duties
An assistant professor´s duties may comprise educational responsibilities or research, and administrative tasks. Teachers are also responsible for monitoring developments within their subject areas and developments in the wider community that are significant to their role as a teacher at a higher education institution. The holder of the appointment will participate in teaching at undergraduate and advanced levels.

First and foremost, you are expected to establish and lead top-quality research activities in the selected area, including supervision of PhD students and acquisition of external funding.

You are active in the research community, will participate in the department's activities such as seminars and workshops, participate in research projects, communicate results via academic publications and contribute to attracting external research funding.

The position as a WWSC Fellow gives you the opportunity to be active in the WWSC program regarding conferences, workshops and networking. The position may also involve leading multi-partnership projects (nationally and internationally) and participating in the management of activities.

As a WWSC Fellow and Assistant Professor in Materials Science, you must be able to teach at first and second cycle level in Swedish and/or English, as well as supervise students in the Faculty of Engineering's various programs. The work may include the design and responsibility of courses.

You are expected to actively contribute to the development of LOE as well as our university as a whole, and we would like you to participate and show interest in management assignments and/or collaborations outside academia.

You are flexible and have the ability to move between different types of educational and scientific contexts. You share knowledge and contribute to professional development, collegial working methods and social community.
