General entry requirements for undergraduate level studies and proficiency in English equivalent to English 6/English B. Exemption from Swedish 3/B.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should have command of the Swedish language equal to level A1, according to CEFR (The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
•understand and use well-known, everyday expressions and very basic phrases, which all aim to meet concrete needs
•present herself/himself and others, and ask as well as answer questions relating to their own life such as where s/he lives, people s/he knows and things s/he owns
•conduct simple conversation, provided that the conversational partner speaks slowly and clearly, and is willing to help out.
Course content
Text
Study of texts that are adapted to the course level and that are used as a basis for reading and listening comprehension exercises, for systematic vocabulary training and as a basis for oral and written tasks.
Oral Comprehension
Exercises in listening comprehension, pronunciation and oral communication
Grammar and Written Proficiency
Study of basic Swedish grammar, with a focus on syntax. Exercises in the writing of texts.
Teaching and working methods
Teaching is given in the form of internet based classes, seminars and exercises. It is necessary that the students can communicate orally and visually via computer. In addition to the instruction given, it is necessary to carry out individual studies.
Examination
Examination consists of continuous internet based assessment throughout the course, as well as of internet based oral and written exam at the end of the course. Detailed information about examination is found in the study guide.
Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
