Course content

Moral Philosophy, 7.5 HE credits
This module covers a modern moral-philosophical work that appears to be central to the current scientific discussion.

Essay Preparatory Literature Course, 7.5 HE credits
This module comprises literature studies that should provide background to the chosen topic. The literature is chosen in consultation with the supervisor.

Thesis, 15 HE credits
The topic is chosen in consultation with the supervisor. Writing an essay is an individual assignment on a chosen practical-philosophical problem or some chosen texts. The essay should contain a thesis statement, based on argumentation, in association with the problem or the text, and should demonstrate the student's ability to independently develop a philosophical argument.

Teaching and working methods

The teaching takes the form of seminars and individual supervision. The literature of the moral-philosophical course is covered at seminars, where the student is expected to participate actively with commenting review and discussion of the current text. The completed essays are also covered at the seminars. The student should function as a student reviewer at an occasion.

Examination

The course is examined through oral review, assignments that are presented at the seminars and through ventilation of an essay.

If the LiU coordinator for students with disabilities has granted a student the right to an adapted examination for a written examination in an examination hall, the student has the right to it. If the coordinator has instead recommended for the student an adapted examination or alternative form of examination, the examiner may grant this if the examiner assesses that it is possible, based on consideration of the course objectives.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
