Course content

The course focuses on theories of globalisation and theories of global justice. A central topic is the concept of global justice, its different interpretations, its relation to human rights, its implications for new global actors like NGOs and corporations, its justification and various suggested ways of its implementation.
Students present a proposal for introducing a global justice issue (global organization or global issue like migration, climate change, fair trade etc.) for a political organization, political party, municipality board or work place.
Texts in the area are studied.

Teaching and working methods

In lectures and seminars, students read and analyse texts, participate in group discussions, write papers and are actively involved in seminar discussions. In addition, lectures are provided.

Examination

Active participation in seminar discussions is required. The course is examined by a paper assignment.

If the LiU coordinator for students with disabilities has granted a student the right to an adapted examination for a written examination in an examination hall, the student has the right to it. If the coordinator has instead recommended for the student an adapted examination or alternative form of examination, the examiner may grant this if the examiner assesses that it is possible, based on consideration of the course objectives.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
