Entry requirements
A bachelor’s degree in the humanities, fine arts, social sciences, behavioural sciences, health sciences or natural sciences or equivalent qualifications are required.
Documented knowledge of English equivalent to Engelska 6.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student shall be able to
– conduct individual, original research on a topic in Ethnic and Migration Studies at the Master’s level;
– prepare, execute, write and submit a Masterʼs thesis, reporting the findings of original analysis;
– apply in-depth knowledge of the contents and methodology of Ethnic and Migration studies;
– contribute to the development of knowledge in Ethnic and Migration Studies, including considerable insight into current research and development work in the area of the chosen research topic;
– defend and discuss her own research in an open seminar, with an academic and scholarly perspective;
– critically evaluate and discuss another thesis or scholarly text from an academic and scholarly perspective.
Course content
The course consists of independent work, in which the student independently designs and executes a scientific and scholarly task. The student will individually formulate a relevant research research task in the discipline of Ethnic and Migration studies, work through substantial empirical and theoretical documentation and demonstrate the results in a written thesis. The student will carry out the thesis in consultation with a supervisor.
Teaching and working methods
The course offers supervision in regular individual meetings. Individual supervision is complemented by master’s seminars.
Examination
The course is examined through the completion, presentation and defence of the studentʼs own thesis, and opposition on another studentʼs thesis, and mandatory seminars.
Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
