Entry requirements

Admission to the course requires a bachelor's degree in religious studies, or the equivalent, and passing grade in at least on course for second-cycle studies in History of Christianity comprising 15 HE credits, or the equivalent. In addition to the above, documented knowledge in Swedish and English is required, equivalent to the general entry requirements for first-cycle studies.

Intended learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- independently identify and formulate an issue in the history of Christianity and examine it independently in the form of a thesis by means of the theory and method traditions of the discipline
- search, interpret and critically review material relevant to the issue
- orally and in writing, account for and discuss the independent conclusions, knowledge and arguments that underlie these
- analyse, assess and discuss another thesis, or equivalent work in the subject area.

Course content

From the theory and method traditions of the discipline, the student independently examines an issue in the history of Christianity. The results are presented in writing and defended at a thesis seminar. The course includes analysing, assessing and discussing another thesis, or other equivalent work.

Teaching and working methods

The independent thesis work is supported by a course introduction and supervision, and a completing essay seminar. The student should actively and constructively prepare before supervision and the seminar sessions.

Examination

The course is examined through participation in compulsory seminars/supervision sessions and final review, but mainly through assessing the completed essay and public discussion of other students' essays. Detailed information can be found in the study guide.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.

Grades

Three-grade scale, U, G, VG
