Intended learning outcomes
After having finished the course, students shall:
- be able to identify and analyze issues concerning cultural diversity and integration in relation to Children & Families and Education.
Course content
In this course different aspects of equality, diversity and integration in a society are examined. The importance of education in a world of clashing cultures, rapid transformation and globalization is analysed. Special attention is paid to the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child.
Teaching and working methods
Instruction is given in the form of lectures and seminars. Students are expected to prepare for lectures and seminars by reading recommended texts and take part in all group work. Students are also expected to take active part in discussions, lead seminars and be opponents on each other’s papers.
Examination
Examination is done through written individual or group (2 students) assignments and active, constructive participation in seminars.
