The course also provides knowledge of how “uses of history” can be a part of history teaching in schools.
After completing the course the student should be able:
- to describe theories concerning the use of history and historical consciousness
- to discuss and analyze uses of history based on historical and contemporary examples
- to integrate and apply the acquired theoretical subject and didactic knowledge in a written work
Course content
The course deals with how interpretations of the past are used to create and reproduce meaning. The course also problematizes how history is used in ways that affect people differently depending on their gender, ethnicity, etc.
Teaching and working methods
Lectures and seminars where students are expected to participate actively.
Examination
Examination may be written and/or oral.

- Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.
If the course is a VfU course, the following applies:
- Examination of applied social and didactic abilities is limited to three (3) occasions.
The following applies to courses that include a compulsory component:

If the LiU coordinator for students with disabilities has granted a student the right to an adapted examination for a written examination in an examination hall, the student has the right to it. If the coordinator has instead recommended for the student an adapted examination or alternative form of examination, the examiner may grant this if the examiner assesses that it is possible, based on consideration of the course objectives.
