Intended learning outcomes

After having successfully completed the course the student shall be able to:

  • Identify and explain the structure and systematics of Swedish national law and EU-law as well as central normative ethical theories, principles and concepts.
  • Identify and explain the regulatory framework as well as ethical approaches to the use of information technology, IT-security, intellectual property rights and the automated processing of personal data.
  • Apply criminal law and ethical theories of importance for the misuse of internet and other data communication.
  • To investigate, analyze and problematize legal and ethical questions in relation to the implementation and use of information technology and to express conclusions and acquired knowledge both orally and in writing.

Course content

  • Basic central normative ethical theories, principles and concepts.
  • Basic legal concepts and principles, including the structure of the legal framework, different legal sources as well as how legal rules are adopted and applied.
  • Legal and ethical aspects on IT-security, intellectual property rights and the automated processing of personal data.
  • Human rights and civil rights, such as the freedom of speech and the freedom of press.
  • Ethical concepts and legal rules applicable to the misuse of the internet and other data communication.

The course applies problem based learning which is coordinated in the course Physical Principles.
