Prerequisites

Knowledge of graphic design and media production above the most basic level and experience in practical project work in the field.

Intended learning outcomes

The aim of this course is to develop knowledge and skills in editorial design with a particular focus on  visual communication. After completing the course, students are expected to:

  • Be able to explain common terms, ambitions, processes and technologies in contemporary editorial media of importance..
  • Be able to explain ethical perspectives in editorial design,
  • Be able to assess aspects of relevance and quality in the design of editorial publications.
  • Have applied theory and knowledge in the production of editorial publications.
  • Have demonstrated skills in planning, designing and producing editorial publications

Course content

The theoretical and practical framework of the course comprises:

  • Content and editorial design

  • Visual journalism and data journalism with visualization

  • Verbovisual communication and media 

  • Layout and typography in editorial publications 

  • Storytelling, format and channels 

  • Ethics and sustainability in editorial design

  • Identity and vehicle

  • Media production

Teaching and working methods

Lectures, workshops, seminars and project work. Study visits may be included.
