Entry requirements
For admission to the course, completion of year 1 and year 2 of the Bachelor's Programme in Cognitive Science, or the equivalent, is required.Intended learning outcomes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- account for different qualitative research methods, e.g. grounded theory, participatory design, case methodology and action research, that can be used within cognitive science fields,
- design, carry out and interpret the results of a qualitative study, e.g. in connection with development or evaluation of computer-based systems or services, complex systems where people and technology interact or language engineering systems,
- in a practical way use different tools for collection and analysis of data, e.g. target groups, video recorded interviews and/or observations.
Course content
Examples of qualitative research methods that are used in current research that is practiced in cognitive science fields, e.g. composite cognitive systems, interaction design, language engineering and disability research, are given in the course.
Teaching and working methods
Teaching takes the form of lectures, seminars and group work. The student is expected to study independently, individually and in groups.
Examination
The course is examined through written assignments.
Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.
Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.

Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.
