Entry requirements

At least 7.5 HE credits approved in the History of Christianity, continuation course. In addition to the above, documented knowledge in Swedish and English is required, equivalent to the general entry requirements for first-cycle studies.

Intended learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- account for and critically review scientific theoretical and methodological problems linked to the first centuries of the Christian church
- account for main features in the historical development during the earliest centuries of the Christian church
- independently analyse, orally and in written form present and discuss chosen specialities in the first centuries of the Christian church.

Course content

The course mainly consists of independent studies. Support in the form of supervision will also be included. Since the student chooses the reading list, which, however, should be approved by the coordinator, the emphasis of the course contents may differ. The contents are based on a reading list of high scholarly quality, such as theses and comment literature, as well as source materials. The reading list should be presented both in writing and orally.

Teaching and working methods

The teaching takes the form of supervision and examination talks. The student mainly works with literature studies and writing independently.

The course is examined through written assignments and oral examination. Detailed information can be found in the study guide.

Students failing an exam covering either the entire course or part of the course twice are entitled to have a new examiner appointed for the reexamination.

Students who have passed an examination may not retake it in order to improve their grades.

Three-grade scale, U, G, VG

Other information

Planning and implementation of a course must take its starting point in the wording of the syllabus. The course evaluation included in each course must therefore take up the question how well the course agrees with the syllabus.

The course is carried out in such a way that both men´s and women´s experience and knowledge is made visible and developed.
