A Conceptual Essay
Speaker: Marcia Sá Cavalcante Schuback
Welcome to a seminar with Marcia Sá Cavalcante Schuback on her recent book Fascism of Ambiguity (Bloomsbury, 2022) recently published in a Swedish, extended, edition, Mellan lögn och verklighet – en essä om tvetydighetens fascism (Faethon, 2025).
Cavalcante is professor of Philosophy at the University College of Södertörn. Educated in Brazil she has written extensively in Swedish, English and Portuguese on German Idealism, Hermeneutical Phenomenology, Ancient Philosophy, Contemporary Philosophy with special interest in the relationship between philosophy, poetry and arts.
Cavalcante´s understanding of the fascism that arise today centers on how it uses the ambiguity of senses and meaning in infiltrating our reality to overburden it with meanings. This eventually empties it from meaning and destroys coexistence - the space for conversation and politics. She proposes a mobilisation of poetry and music to resist and counter-act the fascist metapolitics of the ambiguity of meanings and senses.
