The course will enable students to critically analyse and interpret the results of scientific research and evaluate its limits and possibilities with respect to knowledge and its implementation. We have divided the course into four differently themed modules, consisting of lectures and seminars. The topics of the modules are dealing with scientific knowledge and scientific reasoning, what part statistics and probability play in science, how models are used in science and how to use scientific knowledge in policymaking. The reading materials for the course will be a combination of text book chapters to introduce some of the core concepts of philosophy of science, and articles from scientific journals to exemplify how these concepts can be applied in scientific work.
