The course deals with the basic issue of the philosophy of science concerning scientific models and modelling, such as scientific representation and the nature and properties of models. During the course, students learn about different views on the role of models in scientific research, as well as the role of mathematics in the creation of scientific models. The fundamentals of different methods for creating models are also touched upon. Furthermore, the practical consequences of the technical design of the models are also investigated.
