This course presents the basic concepts, theories and problems of decision theory. Both individual and group decision theory will be covered. The course starts with a general overview of classical decision theory, and then focuses on more specific issues, as well as various alternatives to the classical theory. After this part of the course, we move on to group decision theory. Theories of group decisions include issues concerning principles for voting and methods for aggregating individual voters' preferences. The theory of decision is intertwined with systematic thinking about risk, and this part of the course will therefore contain a sustained presentation and discussion of issues related to handling risks, known and unknown, on an individual and societal level.
