LiU 50 Years

“I’m proud to have both been given the chance to study at Linköping University and to have worked here! To be able to start up a completely new teacher programme in 1997 at Campus Norrköping – the Primary School Teacher Programme – has meant a lot for me personally, for many students and for the city of Norrköping. Helping to provide many children with good teachers from preschool to university is important. My time at LiU has contributed to me working as a principal, which I’ve done twice in structurally disadvantaged areas – a job that feels important.”

“One thing stood out on the environmental science programme at LiU – the use of problem-based learning, PBL. I’ve never been that good at written tests, so being examined through projects and argument is perfect for me. LiU has meant a lot to me and, if the environmental science programme had not existed, I wouldn’t have been as educated as I wanted to be.”

“LiU gave me a solid foundation for working life. It wasn’t just masses of studying, writing and fika (coffee breaks). I remember an excursion to Omberg during geography studies: some pranksters handed out random rocks to be circulated in the group. The recipients closely studied the rocks, believing that our teacher, Björn Segrell, had told us to inspect them for some important but unclear reason.”

“The choice to become a nurse was far from an obvious one for me. Up until my last exam, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to be a nurse. When I got my nursing degree, in 1989, the teachers sent us personal greetings. I engraved the lines I got on the back of my nurse’s brooch: A rose for your curiosity and your good cheer, of course we wonder what will happen next year?”

“Having a doctoral education has opened many doors and an understanding of how to interpret and use research. It was at LiU that I learned the importance of collaboration between different sectors and different professions that has been key throughout my professional career.”

“Nowadays, I’m a mystical company founder but have previously founded fun small companies such as Strawbees and Ass-Savers. My time in Linkoping was magical, and I was lucky that the programme, the teachers and everything around me suited me. I was even lucky with the hall of residence I ended up in, and some of us are still in contact with each other. A happy memory is of when me and my friend Peter, at short notice, replaced John Pohlman as conference host at SOF and Corren newspaper compared us to Hasse and Tage. It was great!”

“I met my wife on the programme. That was without a doubt the best thing that happened to me at LiU. But, in second place are probably all the friends and the studies that were so incredibly interesting. I can still think back to several of the textbooks we had and long to read them again.”

“During my student years, I found my academic drive, met my partner, got the chance to develop intellectually in a stimulating context and started the cooperative association Biljettluckan that kick-started Norrköping’s student life with the help of various discounts and offers.”
