How much preventive health care benefit you receive

The preventive health care benefit amounts to a maximum of SEK 2,500 per calendar year. The benefit is granted in proportion to the length of your employment and is allocated at one twelfth (1/12) per calendar month during which you have salaried employment.

When and how you receive your preventive health care benefit

Employees on a monthly salary are allocated the preventive health care benefit in January each calendar year, or at the start of their employment. The benefit is calculated based on the applicable employment period during the year. If you have a fixed-term contract that is extended, additional preventive health care benefit is allocated in proportion to the extended employment period.

Employees paid by the hour are allocated the preventive health care benefit monthly and in arrears. Hours worked in December form the basis for the first allocation in January, and so on. The benefit becomes available after working hours have been reported and salary has been paid. As preventive health care benefits that are not used during a calendar year cannot be saved or carried over to the following year, it is important that employees paid by the hour report their working hours as soon as possible. This is particularly important at the end of the year, as hours worked in November form the basis for the allocation in December.

LiU uses Epassi to manage the preventive health care benefit. You access your benefit via the Epassi app or the Epassi website. Login is done using BankID.

How to use your preventive health care benefit

Epassi has around 18,000 affiliated preventive health care providers. The easiest way to use your preventive health care benefit with one of these providers is via the Epassi app, the Epassi website, or by visiting the provider in person.

It is also possible to use the preventive health care benefit with providers that are not affiliated with Epassi. In this case, you pay for the activity yourself and submit your receipt to Epassi. Remember to ask whether the provider is affiliated before paying, as Epassi does not reimburse personal purchases/receipts from providers that are already affiliated with the service.

The preventive health care benefit may be used for activities that comply with current tax legislation and established practice for tax-free preventive health care benefits. In addition, the following applies:

  • The preventive health care benefit may only be used with providers registered in Sweden, i.e. practitioners with F-tax registration and Swedish VAT registration (Swedish non-profit associations are exempt from VAT registration).
  • Activities funded by the preventive health care benefit must be carried out outside working hours.

Affiliated providers

If a preventive health care provider is affiliated with Epassi, you can purchase the service directly in the app, via the Epassi website, or by showing valid identification on site. Please note that not all payment methods are available with all providers. Therefore, check the app, the Epassi website, or contact the provider to find out which options apply.
You can use your preventive health care benefit with Epassi-affiliated providers up to and including 31 December of the current year.

The Epassi app

  • Download the Epassi app from the App Store or Google Play.
  • If you pay on site at the provider, select the activity in the app and complete the payment. Once the payment is completed, show the digital receipt at the checkout. Note: The receipt is valid for 15 minutes. Therefore, do not make the payment until you are at the checkout.
  • If the provider offers remote payment, a blue box with the text Remote payments will appear in the provider’s profile. Scroll down to the section Pay remotely in the app and select one of the blue options. You will then receive a confirmation with instructions on how to redeem your purchase.

Using multiple preventive health care benefits in the Epassi app

If you have preventive health care benefits from more than one employer, you can see all your benefits combined in your Epassi app account. You may use both benefits, but each benefit must be used in a separate purchase.

This means that:

  • When purchasing directly in the app (e.g. online services), it is not possible to combine benefits in a single payment.
  • With most preventive health care providers that accept payment on site, you can instead make two separate payments in the Epassi app, one from each benefit.

The Epassi website

On the Epassi website, www.epassi.se, you can log in using BankID to view your preventive health care balance and purchase preventive healthcare services online. This is an alternative if you do not want to or are unable to use the app.

Showing identification on site at the provider

Many affiliated providers offer payment through on-site identification. You inform the provider that you wish to pay via Epassi and show your ID. The provider then deducts the amount directly from your preventive health care balance.

Non‑affiliated providers

If a provider is not affiliated with Epassi, you pay for the preventive health care activity yourself and then submit your receipt/supporting documentation digitally via the Epassi website. Login is done using BankID, which means you can only submit receipts if you have BankID.

Receipt and documentation requirements

For Epassi to approve and reimburse personal expenses, certain information must be included on the receipt and certain conditions must be met. Log in to the Epassi website and go to “Register your receipt” to review the applicable requirements.

Activities that are not exercise-based

If the purchase relates to a non-exercise activity that is carried out on a single occasion, the cost may not exceed SEK 1,000.

Reimbursement payment

Once Epassi has approved your expense, the reimbursement is paid directly to you. You enter your bank account number on the website, and payment is made around the 25th of the month following approval of your submission.

Final dates for submitting receipts

  • Last date to submit receipts to be charged to the current year: 14 November
  • Last date to supplement already registered receipts: 27 November

Please note that receipt registration can only be done if the provider is not affiliated with Epassi.

Other information

Please note that receipt registrations relating to services, products and/or providers of preventive health care services that do not comply with current tax legislation and established practice for tax-free preventive health care benefits, or that do not meet LiU’s preventive healthcare guidelines, will be rejected by Epassi.
