In traditional housing of slaughter pigs, about 10 pigs per pen are usually kept. An alternative housing system is scale house where the pigs are kept in large groups (max 450 animals is stated for Domino PigSort).

Description of the system

This system is designed around a sorting scale that automatically weighs and sorts pigs. The sorting scale enables control of feeding and automatic sorting of animals that are, for example, ready to go to slaughter or are underweight.

The production of a scale house system can be monitored through the sorting scale system and viewed on a PC or tablet. The results can be used in combination with other systems. From the sorting scale software you can see the number of passes per day and the average weight of the group. Based on this, growth curves and slaughter planning are created. Where pigs are individually labelled, information can be provided at individual level. Daily analysis of data means that the pig farmer always has up-to-date information that can be used for planning and management and to handle deviations.

The housing systems with scales and housing provide up-to-date information and facilitate weighing and planning of slaughter. The system can be adapted to existing premises and is therefore interesting for both new buildings and remodelling. The system has arrived in Sweden in recent years but has been around longer.
