This course traces the development of English from Old English to Early Modern (Shakespearean) English through the study of representative texts from different eras. At the same time students will consolidate and extend their linguistic knowledge and skills by applying different analytical tools to aspects of phonology, orthography, morphology, syntax and lexis. The course may be counted towards the English Magister (1st year Master's course), 60 credits.
