How and why international conflicts develop and are solved depends on the prevailing international order. Theoretically, this order can be conceived between a distinctly anarchic system and a well-developed international society. Different international orders (structures, norms, institutions) provide different opportunities and grounds for legitimacy for different forms of international power. The aim of this course is to provide a deeper understanding of this interplay between power, order, and conflict in international politics. The course highlights central concepts and theories as well as contemporary examples of international conflict.
