Cultural and aesthetic expressions are excellent tools for understanding migration, intercultural encounters, and conditions of exile and diaspora. Likewise, racism, xenophobia and the stereotyping ethnic minorities are expressed through images, writing, and media. In this course you will learn how literary narratives, visual arts, photography, cinema, and the performing arts influence our thinking about race, ethnicity and migration. You will study classical texts about colonial conquest and anticolonial resistance, and contemporary debates on the relation of art and racism.
