In today's world, sustainable development is no longer an option, but a necessity. More and more employers demand that you have competence in sustainability to create a better future for all. That's why you should take our Sustainable development course that emanates from the UN global goals.
Course Overview
The course is a hybrid (physical/digital) course that offers participants an opportunity to work in interdisciplinary groups with sustainability challenges. Through active learning classrooms and internet-based communication tools (Zoom), groups meet digitally two hours once a week with their mentors to learn about Agenda 2030 and work on their challenges. At the end of the course, results are presented to course participants and may be shared via different channels to reach a broader audience.
Course Content
The course is based on the United Nations' 17 sustainability goals within Agenda 2030. Participants will carry out in-depth work within one of the goals and broaden their knowledge in other sustainability goals by becoming familiar with the work of other groups. The course involves working with a sustainability challenge of your choice.
Intended Learning Outcomes
After completing the course, you will be able to identify a challenge linked to one of the 17 goals in Agenda 2030 and analyze it from a temporal/cultural/geographical perspective. You will also be able to obtain, interpret, and compile information from scientific literature and the surrounding society relevant to manage the identified challenge. You will propose a way to wisely handle the challenge based on information from relevant sources. Finally, you will communicate your result in English, both in writing and orally.
Teaching and Working Methods
All teaching is in English, and the course is performed in the form of group work. During the semester, two hours per week from September through November are scheduled. Besides these meetings, students perform self-studying in groups or on their own. Interaction with companies, health providers, authorities, NGO:s and others will also occur. At the end of the course you will communicate your results to different stakeholders.
Examination
Examination takes place through continuous written and oral reporting in English individually and in groups. Additionally, active participation is required in mandatory parts for passing the course. The mandatory elements of this course include the kick-off, group meetings and the examination. The group's mentor assesses the performance of individual group members according to the course objectives.
The Sustainable development course offers a unique opportunity to learn, grow and make a positive impact on society and the world at large.
