We are happy to inform you about a new opportunity to apply for a scholarship of 75 000 SEK when doing your MSc thesis project within Material Science for Sustainability at LiU. The new initiative is called WISE Research Master’s Thesis projects, and up to 12 scholarships will be awarded for the academic year 2026/27.
There will be an online information meeting about this opportunity on April 14 at 12.45-13.10, where you can receive additional information and ask questions. Meeting link: https://liu-se.zoom.us/j/69751321859
Background
Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability (WISE) is the largest-ever investment in materials science in Sweden, with a total donation of 3.0 BSEK from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. The vision is to enable sustainable technologies with a positive impact on society by understanding, creating, and controlling complex materials. The WISE Research Master’s Thesis initiative aims to connect students in engineering and the natural sciences with leading research groups, thereby promoting master’s thesis projects and future doctoral studies within materials science for sustainability.
WISE Research Master's Thesis
Selected students will receive a stipend and, during the final year of their Master’s studies, become affiliated with a WISE-relevant research group. The WISE Research Master’s Thesis project will be conducted in a relevant research environment, under the supervision and examination of an active professor or researcher. In addition to completing their research-based thesis, students are expected to participate in selected activities within the research environment and may also be offered advanced courses that can be credited toward future doctoral studies.
The scholarship is paid out on two occasions: upon completion of approximately 30% of the thesis project (25 kSEK), and upon final approval of the master’s thesis (50 kSEK).
