Job: Quality Engineer at AT&S
Programme: Industrial Engineering and Management, graduated in 2019
What do you do at work?
I do quality control on documentation of the training materials, organisational reaction plans and process instructions of the product for customers, mainly those from the US. Something else I do is database management (SQL mining) of production lists in the different workstations.
What was your path into working life like?
I worked as the Customer Quality Engineer at the Shanghai plant, where I had to go through a three-month trial period. That included two presentations involving comprehension of the production process, different control parameters, and the specific requirements of inline inspection of both the production process and the products.
Why did you choose to study in Sweden and especially at Linköping University?
One of the reasons I chose LiU is because the tuition fees are relatively lower than other universities’. Secondly, since it isn’t a densely populated city, I didn’t need to put my heart and soul into finding accommodation. Lastly, LiU was one of the few universities that had the master’s programme in English.
What do you think about your education and your time in Linköping?
The education combined the basics of theoretical elements with real life situations in the industrial world, and I gained some experience of projects in the master’s studies, which in turn helped me a lot in my current work. It also helped me gain the knowledge to understand and apply the terminologies and the concepts of industrial engineering.
What was your student life like?
It was very nice to be able to travel with the ISA and ESN student associations at Linköping to Lapland, Helsinki and Tallinn, and to meet students from different countries. Moreover, I was also engaged in the IEM Department as a part-time coordinator and involved in the LiU Chinese Student Association. Lastly, I’ve been in a film by the LiU student administration office for Chinese students who want to study IEM and, the video is available on LiU’s official YouTube channel.
Best memory from your time at LiU?
It was a lot of fun working in the computer lab, it felt like a good way of challenging myself and getting hands-on experience very quickly. Some other things were the visit to the supercomputer lab, which was amazing, and of course the student parties and hangouts were fantastic.
Any advice for future students?
My advice would be to work hard on the different courses, but also not to forget to make full use of your free time to explore. There are endless possibilities. Lastly, have fun at LiU!
