Description of the system
By continuously monitoring the pig's eating habits, the amount of feed can be optimised for each feeding, reducing the risk of excess feed being left in the trough. It is important that both the placement of sensors and software settings are done correctly to ensure the right amount of feed is given. Constantly feeding the pig according to its appetite reduces feeding stress.
One of the major benefits of feeding time control is that it reduces amino acid losses on feed that remains too long in the trough after feeding. In a modern feed for fattening pigs, a large proportion of the amino acids are added to the feed, including lysine, threonine and tryptophan. These added amino acids are broken down very quickly when it is in moulded form. So if you can reduce the time the feed is in the trough, the losses of amino acids will decrease. Which in turn leads to better feed utilisation and less CO2 footprint from pig production.
