The master’s programme in Industrial Engineering and Management seemed like the perfect choice for Deepika. After graduating, she landed a desirable position with Volvo Group to kickstart her engineering career.

Name: Deepika Dronamraju
Nationality: Indian
Programme: Industrial Engineering and Management
Graduation year: 2018
Current occupation: Requirement Engineer (Volvo GTT Engineering Graduate Program) at Volvo Group Trucks & Technology

Deepika moved to Sweden after getting married. To improve her chances of finding a job in Sweden, she decided to continue her studies here and quickly came across Linköping University.

“I learned that LiU is one of the prestigious universities that I should aim for. As I wanted to do my masters within engineering combined with management courses, the Industrial Engineering and Management programme seemed like a perfect choice for me.”

Group work and case studies

She found the learning environment quite different from that of her home country, India.

“At LiU it was more focused, with group work assignments in almost every course, and practical case studies. Furthermore, the referencing and citations of books and articles was not so common and particular at the university where I studied back home. This was one major thing that I learned and practiced. I also appreciated the opportunity to take the Six Sigma Green Belt Certification, which boosted my passion towards Quality Management.”

After graduation, she kickstarted her engineering career. She found employment as Requirement Engineer with Volvo Group Trucks and Technology (Volvo GTT). There, she was accepted to Volvo’s one-year engineering graduate programme, which involved travelling to Volvo Group locations in different countries to learn about the technology, business and strategic parts related to Volvo Group Trucks.

“Many engineers aspire to get into this programme and for me it was the opportunity of a lifetime. I’m very glad that I chose LiU for my master’s in Sweden!”

”Interact with teachers and learn Swedish”

What advice would she like to offer future LiU students?

“I would recommend them to attend all teaching sessions as well as the occasional guest lectures, because then they can interact with the teacher and ask questions. The teachers at LiU are always ready to help you. Also, put as much effort into the group assignments as you do in individual assignments and exams. Choose the courses accordingly such that they help to write your thesis. Finally, take some time from your busy schedule to learn Swedish in parallel. At least the basic level will be of great help to get into the Swedish culture!”
