The project investigates novel methods for skin transplantation, with autologous skin cells in combination with biomaterial scaffolds.
The main target is to promote tissue regeneration following burns and other trauma. The study is performed using a porcine wound healing model. Outcome parameters include assays to analyze transplant integration and survival, as well as subsequent scar formation. An application to the Ethics Board is currently being finalized, to start clinical trials on healthy volunteers. The project is a collaboration with the Department of Hand and Plastic Surgery at the University Hospital in Linköping.
