Description
concentrate feeding stations for sheep. Individualised feeding of ewes and rams. Concentrated feed is distributed at many times during the day, adapted to the individual needs of each animal. The benefits are numerous.
- Individual feeding of the animals means that fewer group divisions are needed.
- Better feed utilisation as there are more feeds but smaller quantities and the animal's digestion works better.
- Stress around feeding is eliminated.
- Better management of the herd.
Using a roughage substitute or lucerne pellets instead of concentrates allows the animals to have free access to a low-value roughage such as straw or hay throughout the year and to supplement the rest of the feed ration individually in the feeder. Animal identification is done with the electronic ear tag. Some models can also be supplemented with scales so that the weight change over time is recorded. Some of the feeders also work on grazing farms.
