Why not take the opportunity to learn some Swedish while you are on exchange or studying a degree programme at Linköping University? It might be for social, cultural or career purposes or just out of curiosity.

LiU offers beginner’s courses in Swedish open to international degree students and exchange students at LiU. The courses are part-time with lectures once a week during the semester. They are divided into different levels, which means that admission is depending on your previous knowledge of Swedish. Each course bears 7.5 credits/semester.

Please note that the courses cannot be included in your master’s degree from LiU. Application is possible after you have been admitted to a programme at LiU.
If you are an international exchange student you are not required to use the application form below. Instead, you apply to the courses while applying to other courses for your exchange in the mobility programme MoveON.

For non fee-paying students the courses are free of charge. Fee-paying students need to pay tuition fees according to the information below.

Courses

Beginner's course in Swedish, level A1, 7.5 ECTS

This course is intended for students with no previous knowledge of Swedish. The aim of the course is to give students a basic knowledge of Swedish with an emphasis on oral skills. The course includes pronunciation exercises, oral training, basic Swedish grammar and short, writing exercises.

Beginner's course in Swedish, level A2, 7.5 ECTS

This course is intended for students with knowledge of Swedish equivalent to the Beginner’s course in Swedish, level A1. Students will improve their Swedish language proficiency and broaden their knowledge of Swedish society. They will also acquire a deeper knowledge of important basic grammar and an elementary working vocabulary.

Beginner's course in Swedish, level B1:1, 7.5 ECTS

This course is intended for students with knowledge of Swedish equivalent to the Beginner’s Course in Swedish, level A1 or Beginner’s course in Swedish, level A2. Students will be able to discuss matters of everyday life in mainly correct Swedish and give an account of their knowledge of Swedish society and culture based on the course literature.

Beginner's course in Swedish, level B1:2, 7.5 ECTS

This course is intended for students with knowledge of Beginner’s course in Swedish, level B1:1. Students will be able to discuss matters of everyday life in mainly correct Swedish and give an account of their knowledge of Swedish society and culture based on the course literature.

Application process

Tuition fees

For each 7.5 credit course, the tuition fee is 8750 SEK. The tuition fee is not applicable to non-fee-paying students.
You must pay your tuition fee before the deadline. All necessary payment information will be included in your notification of selection results when your application has been processed and will be sent to you by e-mail. It is essential that you pay your tuition fees by the deadline. If you have not paid by the payment due date, you will lose your study offer.

Please use the application form to submit your interest. Late applications will be handled on a first come first served basis if there still are seats available. If you are an international exchange student, you do not use this form to apply for the courses. You apply while selecting the other courses for your exchange at LiU in the mobility programme MoveON.
