Skin microcirculation

My research focuses on developing mechanistic models to investigate the relationship between skin metabolism and cardiovascular disease risk factors using large datasets. The goal is to identify novel markers for early detection and risk assessment of cardiovascular diseases.

Cardiovascular diseases often induce early alterations in microcirculation. The skin, being the largest and most accessible organ, is the best site to study microcirculation. Skin microcirculatory parameters such as perfusion, oxygen saturation, and red blood cell (RBC) tissue fraction can be obtained using bio-optical models of light scattering in the skin. These measurements enable the calculation of skin metabolism, a parameter known to be altered in various conditions, including cardiovascular diseases.
