My research

My research profile in recent years has focused on preventive women’s health from multiple perspectives. How can we prevent and identify health problems during pregnancy, and how can we provide pregnant women with accessible care that promotes greater self-management? This is what I aim to explore further.

I lead a project on a modified antenatal care program for healthy pregnant women at low risk of complications. Over the past decade, maternity care has introduced numerous medical routines, screenings, tests, and ultrasound examinations, yet the standard care program has remained extensive. Today, we can identify a group of women who are likely receiving more care than necessary. Therefore, we have developed a modified program with a reduced number of in-person visits, supplemented by midwife video consultations. We have published a study protocol and, in the coming years, will evaluate this program from several perspectives: quality, medical outcomes, patient satisfaction, implementation, and health economics.

I am also involved in projects related to pregnancy and cardiovascular health, with a primary focus on microcirculation and endothelial dysfunction in relation to preeclampsia, as well as improving diagnostics and prediction of preeclampsia.

Additionally, I collaborate on a project aimed at designing and evaluating an app (SPARK – SmartPhone App for gestational diabetes patients suppoRting Key lifestyle behaviors and glucose control) to support self-care and accessible care for gestational diabetes. The app is linked to a provider interface that allows healthcare professionals to monitor blood glucose levels and communicate via a chat function. It also includes guidance on lifestyle changes necessary for managing gestational diabetes, such as diet and physical activity.
