Assistant Professor

From functional materials to integrated biosensing systems for healthcare and environmental monitoring.

Presentation

Lingyin Meng is an Assistant Professor in Biosensor Technology at the Division of Sensor and Actuator Systems, Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM), Linköping University.

I received my Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Linköping University in 2020, where my doctoral research focused on conducting polymers and electrochemical biosensors. I subsequently worked as a Research Engineer and Postdoctoral Researcher at the Division of Sensor and Actuator Systems, expanding my research from electrochemical biosensors to integrated wearable sensing platforms, sustainable paper-based electronics, and intelligent sensing systems. During 2026, I also worked at VOC Diagnostics AB, where I contributed to the development and validation of electronic nose technologies for cancer diagnostics using clinical plasma samples. These experiences have shaped my interdisciplinary research approach and provided the foundation for establishing my independent research programme as Assistant Professor.

My research lies at the intersection of materials science, analytical chemistry, electronics, and biosensor technology, with the overall goal of translating advanced functional materials into intelligent sensing systems for healthcare, environmental monitoring, and sustainable analytical technologies.

My research focuses on:

  • Flexible and wearable biosensing systems for continuous health monitoring, integrating electrochemical biosensors, flexible electronics, wireless communication, and intelligent data analysis.
  • Sustainable paper-based electronics (papertronics), where renewable materials such as cellulose, lignin, and laser-induced graphene are engineered into environmentally friendly sensing platforms and microfluidic analytical devices.
  • Rapid microbial detection for drinking water safety, developing biosensing methodologies that combine biological recognition, sample enrichment, and optical detection technologies (e.g., flow cytometry) for monitoring rare indicator bacteria such as E. coli.
