My research focuses on the question of how medical personnel learn to save lives, and how training and education can best be designed to be effective in real-world situations.

My research is in applied traumatology, focusing on how simulation-based trauma training can be designed, evaluated, and improved.

A central question is how training with biological models can be ethically and pedagogically justified, and when and how it can be replaced by alternative methods. I am particularly interested in care provided in situations where resources are limited and help is far distant; for example in disasters, in field settings, or during long-distance transport. My research is carried out in collaboration with authorities, healthcare organizations, and international partners, and aims to generate knowledge that can be directly translated into improved training, greater preparedness, and ultimately better patient outcomes.
