Note! You need both a mobile phone and a computer or tablet when you go through the activation process. The interfaces might vary slightly depending on which type of unit you’re using.

Start this guide on a computer or tablet

1. On your computer/tablet browser, go to https://tsv.liu.se

2. Sign-in with your LiU-ID@student.liu.se, or for employees LiU-ID@ad.liu.se, and click Next.

3. Click on Password. Write your password and click Sign in.

4. Click on Add sign-in method.

5. Click on Choose a method, click on Authenticator app and Add.

6. Press Next and switch to your mobile device.

Use mobile phone

7. Download the Microsoft Authenticator app (by Microsoft corporation) on your mobile phone if you haven’t done so already. Visit the app store on your mobile phone. Search for ”Microsoft Authenticator” and install it. The app icon is shown adjacent.

8.  Open the app, accept the terms and click on Continue.

9. Click on Scan QR code.

Use computer or tablet

10. Click on Next to see QR code.

Use mobile phone

11. Scan QR code. When you have scanned the QR code you should see that your LiU ID has been added in the app.

12. Click on Next on your computer/tablet to test that your two-step verification is working.

13. A two digit number should appear on your screen and you should get a notification on your mobile phone.

Use mobile phone

14. This is what it looks like on the phone. Fill in the two digit number in the authenticator app and click Yes.

Use computer or tablet

15. You will receive a confirmation that the activation is now done. Please click Next to complete. You can now close the page in the browser.

16. Your two-step verification is now activated and ready to use! The next time you are outside of LiU campus’ wireless network (Eduroam) and attempt to log in to our IT services, you will be required to confirm your identity with the aid of the Microsoft Authenticator app in your mobile phone.

You will be informed during the log in procedure when you need to confirm your identity. Make sure that notifications are enabled in the verification app, in order to allow it to inform you that you must confirm your identity.

On campus, you can always access LiU resources without two-step verification if you use the Eduroam network.
