Your work assignments

Companies face significant challenges in remaining relevant in the future as well. Sustainability is more than just a buzzword—it's a necessity. With global initiatives such as Agenda 2030 in focus and new EU legislation, we face a time of change and transition.

We are searching for an individual who is ready to make a significant and influential impact through their research.

In the announced PhD positions, three different projects are defined that relate to how companies' business models in various ways relate to sustainability, digitalisation, innovation, and how markets are shaped and developed. In your application, please indicate which of the different specialisations you are interested in and how your educational and professional background relates to this.

As part of our research project, you will be at the forefront of developing business models for sustainability. Your work will focus on how companies and organisations can create and offer new solutions that foster sustainable development for diverse stakeholders and actors in global value chains.

We collaborate with leading companies such as Atlas Copco and Epiroc, but we also envisage collaborating with other industrial and consumer companies and stakeholders who share our vision.

As a PhD student at the Centre for Business Model Innovation, you will have the unique and inspiring opportunity to shape your research within the framework of business models and sustainability. This is done in consultation with your supervisors, allowing you to focus on studies that truly interest you.

Value proposition: For example, you will be able to investigate how companies formulate their value propositions to the market in a sustainable and circular way. This may involve analysing how companies integrate sustainability principles into their products and services and how this affects their competitiveness and market position.

Value creation/Value production: You can study how companies create value through their production and supply chain. This can involve investigating how companies minimise their environmental impact, optimise resource use, and collaborate with other actors in the value chain to achieve greater sustainability.

Value delivery: Finally, you will be able to explore how companies distribute the created value to different stakeholders through different payment models. This can involve analysing different payment models, what value is created for various stakeholders, and how this can affect the company's market situation, sales strategy, and, in the long run, the company's overall value and sustainability.

By exploring these areas, you will contribute to our understanding of how companies can transform their business models and play a vital role in supporting a more sustainable future. We look forward to welcoming you to our team and shaping the future of sustainability together!

As a PhD student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects you are part of. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time.

Your qualifications

You have a master’s degree in industrial engineering and management or another equivalent educational background relevant to industrial marketing or industrial management or completed courses with a minimum of 240 credits, at least 60 of which must be in advanced courses.

Documented experience in areas related to the advertised specialisations above is advantageous. Similarly, experience using qualitative and quantitative scientific methods, such as surveys and interviews, to analyse drivers and various aspects of a company's development of business models related to sustainability, digitalisation, innovation, and how markets are shaped and developed is also valuable.

An excellent command of both written and spoken English is a requirement. Proficiency in Swedish is an advantage but not a requirement.

Relate your application to the announced research tracks described above and how you and your educational and professional background are relevant to this.

Your workplace
